Stephen Colbert Joins 'The Hobbit.' Seriously.

When it comes to secretly being a big geek, few celebrities are less secret about it than Stephen Colbert, who frequently makes mention of his nerdy tendencies on his hit TV series "The Colbert Report." Not only has Colbert spent a great deal of time playing Dungeons and Dragons, for instance, he's also gone so far as to learn how to read the version of Elvish created by J.R.R. Tolkien for "The Lord of the Rings." The guy is hardcore.

And now, according to a new interview in Playboy, it looks like Colbert will finally get to put that talent to good use, as he's going to be making a cameo in Peter Jackson's upcoming adaptation of "The Hobbit."

"Peter Jackson invited me to the set last year," Colbert said. "I flew out and watched them shoot some scenes and went to some locations. I saw a 25-minute cut, and it was amazing. Jackson knows I'm a big fan of the films."

When asked if he was hired as an extra and will be appearing in one of the future installments of "The Hobbit," Colbert just smiled and said, "Could be."

Though Colbert may be playing it coy, The Hollywood Reporter has since confirmed that Colbert will, in fact, be appearing on screen in one of the future installments of "The Hobbit," though his cameo is apparently not in "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," which is set to arrive in theaters on December 14.

Stand tall, geeks of America. If it's good enough for Stephen Colbert, then it's good enough for all of us.
