Shailene Woodley better start shopping for some red hair dye.
"The Descendants" beauty will soon be following in the footsteps of Kirsten Dunst as a non-redhead cast as perhaps the most famous redhead in the entire Marvel universe, according to Variety.
Woodley is in early talks to join the cast of the sequel to "The Amazing Spider-Man" in the role of Mary Jane Watson, Peter Parker's other love interest who was portrayed by Dunst in Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" trilogy.
Sony is also seeking an actor to play Harry Osborn, the friend and eventual enemy of Peter Parker played by James Franco in the original trilogy. Rumors are also flying as to who will be the villain in the sequel — all signs right now point to Max Dillon, aka Electro, who gains the power to control electricity after being struck by lightning.
Might the Man in the Shadows (Michael Massee) who visits Dr. Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans) at the end of "The Amazing Spider-Man" have been Electro? There was an awful lot of lightning, after all ...

Anyway, back to Shailene! She was the best thing about "The Descendants" and really it was only a matter of time before a comic book movie franchise swept her off her feet. She's perfect for Mary Jane — Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) had best keep an eye on her man.
Production on "Spider-Man 2" (we'll call it that until we're instructed otherwise) commences in early 2013 with a look toward a release date of May 2, 2014. Both Marc Webb and Andrew Garfield are confirmed for triumphant returns as director and wallcrawler, respectively.
