All summer long, the debate raged across the internet: Which was better, "The Avengers" or "The Dark Knight Rises?" Fans on both sides of the aisle spent months passionately defending their position. Brother fought brother in one of the bloodiest twitter battles ever waged. Chaos reigned.
Now, though, that vicious chapter appears to be coming to a close, as according to Vulture, "The Dark Knight Rises" star Christian Bale has agreed to co-star alongside "The Avengers" star Jeremy Renner in an upcoming film from acclaimed director David O. Russell.
Batman and Hawkeye working together? Looks like someone just saved the internet.
Though the film doesn't yet have a title (we're hoping for "The Avenging Dark Knight Avenges"), here's what we do know about the project: Bale will play a con man who, along with his Oscar-nominated love interest (Amy Adams), assists an Oscar-winning FBI agent (Chris Cooper) in a series of stings against high profile crooks. Renner, meanwhile, is playing someone described as a "volatile" "local hero," which... hey, that could actually be Hawkeye after all.
Of course, it probably won't be, but given Russell's track record (he was behind the camera for Bale's Oscar-winning performance in "The Fighter" and is on track to earn another nomination for this year's "Silver Linings Playbook") we're guessing whatever he comes up with will work out just fine.
And if not, well, at least he'll have some bona fide superheroes on hand to save him.
