"Family Guy" funnyman Seth MacFarlane - whose recent foray into the movie-making world as actor, writer and director, "Ted," was both a box office and critical success - has been tapped by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to host the Oscars on Feb. 24.

MacFarlane issued a tongue-in-cheek statement of playful gratitude on the news, saying "It’s truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars. My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don’t find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast."
