"Are you a big guy that gets all little ... or a little guy that, uh, sometimes blows up large?"
It wouldn't be a Joss Whedon movie without a heaping helping of self-referential meta-dialogue; the people who live in the universe of "The Avengers," even the blue-collar workers, have apparently gotten used to living in a world where there are, well, superheroes with weird superpowers.
Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), most definitely not for the first time, wakes up in a strange place after his latest round of wrecking havoc as the Hulk in this deleted scene from "The Avengers." We saw a truncated version of this scene in the theatrical version, but this extended take features a lot more of Harry Dean Stanton being rather amusing as a security guard who happens upon Banner (and doesn't seemed miffed in the least by all the smashed debris surrounding the scientist).
Security guard cameos seem to be a running joke when it comes to the Hulk. Stan Lee and original Hulk performer Lou Ferrigno could be spotted as security guards in Ang Lee's "Hulk" (2003), with Ferrigno returning to play a library security guard bribed by pizza in "The Incredible Hulk" (2008). And now we get poor Brett from "Alien" lending a superhero a helping hand (and some sage wisdom).
This scene will be featured on "The Avengers" Blu-ray and DVD, which will be available for purchase on Sept. 25.
