All across the country, people took advantage of the long holiday weekend to pretty much do anything other than head to the theater, as "The Possession" topped the box office chart with just $17.7 million according to Film.com.

While that was enough to turn the Jeffrey Dean Morgan horror flick into a winner, the results marked the second weekend in a row that only one movie managed to break the $10 million mark, as second place finisher "Lawless" brought in just $9.7 million despite a cast that included Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf and Jessica Chastain.

For a full run down of the box office numbers, including figures for returning hits "The Expendables 2," "The Bourne Legacy" and "The Dark Knight Rises," head to Film.com.
