The word epic gets tossed around a lot these days, to the point where it barely seems to mean anything any more. That sandwich I had was epic! That blog post is an epic fail! The new song from Katy Perry is epic! Sure, whatever.
But today we have our first look at the upcoming film "Cloud Atlas" from the Wachowski siblings and there's really only one way to describe it: this international trailer does nothing less than redefine what it means to be epic.
Clocking in at nearly six full minutes, the trailer for "Cloud Atlas" features an all-star cast (Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent, Susan Sarandon, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Hugh Grant, we could go on) in an adaptation of the acclaimed, visionary novel of the same name by author David Mitchell.
Just what "Cloud Atlas" is about, on the other hand, is too difficult to describe. Suffice it to say that there are multiple characters leading parallel lives in different time periods, lives that intersect through letters, journals, dreams and visions. And considering how complex the story is, it's only fitting that it took three directors to bring the story to life, with Lana and Andy Wachowski being joined behind the camera by "Run Lola Run" director Tom Twyker.
