There's nothing like a robot to help make you feel alive again.
"Robot and Frank" stars Frank Langella as a retired jewel thief who seems to be heading toward spending the rest of his golden years in poor health and isolation. His son (James Marsden) and daughter (Liv Tyler) intervene by introducing him to his new roommate: a robot (voiced by Peter Sarsgaard) programmed to help him around the house — and put a spring back in his stride.
Frank is wary of his new companion at first but is soon striking up a relationship with the local librarian (Susan Sarandon) — and recruiting his new best friend's assistance as he plans One Last Heist.
"Robot and Frank" made for one of the most pleasant surprises at this year's Sundance Film Festival, a gentle existential comedy that reportedly showcases one of the best Frank Langella performances of all time. While the "near-future" setting seems both awkward and unnecessary, the interaction between the two stars looks delightful indeed — as does the cute romance between the two humans.
