Denzel Washington Takes 'Flight' in New Trailer

Denzel Washington has been such a Grumpy Gus on-screen recently in films like "Safe House" and "American Gangster" that it can be easy to forget just how good he is at creating characters you can root for. Not that his work is ever anything less than interesting and complex, but sometimes people just want a hero, you know?

And then again, as the new trailer for "Flight" shows, sometimes being a hero isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Loosely (and obviously) based on the real-life exploits of hero pilot Chesley Sullenberger, "Flight" stars Washington as an airline pilot who miraculously crash-lands his ailing aircraft, saving the lives of everybody on board. Hooray!

Unlike Sullenberger, however, it turns out that Washington's character had a nip of the ol' bottled comfort the night before and soon enough, questions about his actions lead to a media frenzy that's just as happy to destroy heroes as create them.

Directed by plane crash enthusiast Robert Zemeckis ("Cast Away"), here's a look at the new trailer for "Flight," courtesy of Digital Spy.
