We know Ashley Tisdale can sing. But can she hit the really high notes?
We'll soon find out, as the "High School Musical" alum has signed on to star in "Scary Movie 5," according to Deadline.
Tisdale will be playing a lead role in the latest installment of the horror spoof series, which goes for the psychological thrills this time as it targets "Black Swan" with the story of three dancers — one a veteran and two up-and-comers — who vie for the lead in a new stage production.
The Disney darling is the first official cast member to be announced, though Regina Hall and Anthony Anderson are rumored to be reprising their series roles. The big question, however, is whether or not Anna Faris will be returning as Cindy Campbell — and whether or not a "Scary Movie" can live without her.
Ashley Tisdale is probably best known for her role as Sharpay Evans in the "High School Musical" series. She also played Savannah Monroe on "Hellcats" and currently provides the voice of the constantly put-upon Candace Flynn on the animated series, "Phineas and Ferb." She'll be seen in theaters later this year in the romantic comedy, "Jonah & the Whale," opening Sept. 4.
"Scary Movie 5" will be produced and co-written by David Zucker, the "Airplane!" and "Naked Gun" co-creator who wrote and directed the third and fourth installments in the series. Malcolm D. Lee ("Undercover Brother") will be calling the shots on this one, which will hit theaters on Jan. 11, 2013.
