"Battleship" took an "Avengers"-sized torpedo to its aft mizzen deck this weekend as Marvel's unstoppable juggernaut easily won the top spot at the box office for the third week in a row.

According to Film.com, "The Avengers" racked up an impressive $55.1 million, good for the second biggest third weekend in movie history, behind only "Avatar." "Battleship," meanwhile, turned into "John Carter" star Taylor Kitsch's second huge bomb of the year, grossing just $25.3 million in its debut.
