Nicholas Sparks has built himself a nice little romance empire, and he's about to add yet another leading man to his cause. This time around, it's Josh Duhamel who has landed the lead in the next Sparks adaptation, entitled "Safe Haven."

The story follows a young North Carolina woman who is determined to avoid forming personal ties until a series of events draws her into a relationship with a widowed store owner with kids (Duhamel). Hey, we probably wouldn't be able to resist him either. As she begins to fall in love, however, she struggles with a dark secret that still haunts and terrifies her. No word yet on what that secret actually is, but we bet Duhamel will find a way to make it all better.

Lasse Hallstrom (of "Dear John" and "Salmon Fishing in the Yemem" fame) is slated to direct, though they don't seem to have pinned down the leading lady just yet, Indie Wire reports. At one point, Keira Knightley was rumored to be in early talks, but word around Tinseltown is that she has since moved on. Which means they better find themselves an actress soon, because they've already ambitiously declared a theatrical release date of Feb. 8, 2013 (yes, in less than a year from now).

Attention Hollywood starlets! If you want a chance to kiss Mr. Fergie Duhamel — probably in the rain — apply now.
