Dick Clark, Entertainment Icon, Dead at Age 82

Dick Clark, one of the most iconic figures in entertainment history, died earlier today following a massive heart attack, according to ABC News. He was 82 years old.

Best known for hosting "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" live from New York City's Times Square beginning in 1972, as well as for his role in shaping America's youth culture as the ambassador of rock 'n' roll in the late 1950s and 1960s with "American Bandstand," Clark also played a major role in the film industry as executive producer of the Golden Globes for the past three decades.

Despite these numerous high profile jobs, Clark also managed to find time to appear in numerous TV shows and movies, both as an actor and as himself. Those appearances, however, were seriously curtailed following the 2004 stroke which left him unable to continue as host of "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve;" after a year of rehab, he finally returned in time to lead the Times Square countdown in 2005 after turning over the rest of the broadcast to his successor, Ryan Seacrest.

Clark, who won numerous Emmy and Grammy awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993, is survived his wife Keri and three children.
