Thomas Mann isn't going to escape from high school any time soon.

One of the hearty partiers of "Project X" will continue his quest to survive his teen years as he joins the cast of "King Dork," according to Variety.

"King Dork," based on Frank Portman's 2006 novel, follows best friends Tom and Sam, two outsiders who bond over their shared love of classic rock n' roll as they cope with the agony of getting through high school in 1987.

Mann will be playing the role of Tom, while his "It's Kind of a Funny Story" co-star Keir Gilchrist is being eyed for the role of Sam. "Parks and Recreation" star (and "21 Jump Street" cameo master) Nick Offerman is circling the part of Tom's stepdad (who will hopefully have a moustache and silently stare a lot).

The film is being set up as a co-production of Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's Gary Sanchez Productions and NALA Films. D.V. DeVincentis ("High Fidelity," "Grosse Pointe Blank") is set to adapt the screenplay with Matt Piedmont ("Casa de mi Padre") attached to direct.

As "Project X" continues to rock on at the box office, Thomas Mann's career is entering the red-hot zone. He recently booked a role in "Beautiful Creatures" and will enter the fairy tale craze next year in "Hansel and Gretl: Witch Hunters." He'll be seen later this year in "Fun Size," co-starring Johnny Knoxville, and "As Cool as I Am," co-starring Claire Danes and James Marsden.

Production on "King Dork" will commence in June.
