Elle Fanning will soon no longer be able to avoid the spindles of spinning wheels.
"Maleficent" has long had its wicked witch in Angelina Jolie, and now the "Sleeping Beauty" re-imagining has its, well, Sleeping Beauty in the form of the "Super 8" star, according to Twitch.
No details on the plot of "Maleficent" have been revealed other than it will focus on the title villainess, a scorned witch who curses Princess Aurora, the infant daughter of a king, proclaiming that before the sun sets on her sixteenth birthday, she will prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die (at least according to Disney's 1959 animated version of the story).
Elle Fanning has quickly become one of the hottest young actors in Hollywood over the past couple of years, already surpassing the career of her older sister, Dakota, who's been stumbling a bit ever since she had a growth spurt. At the age of 13, Elle has already worked with quite a few A-list directors, including David Fincher ("The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"), Sofia Coppola ("Somewhere"), J.J. Abrams ("Super 8"), Francis Ford Coppola ("Twixt") and Cameron Crowe ("We Bought a Zoo").
We've been hearing about this "Maleficent" movie for what seems like sixteen years, but things are finally gearing up with Fanning joining the cast and "Alice in Wonderland" production designer Robert Stromberg being confirmed as director. Production will commence in June, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In the interim, we've got two takes on the Snow White fairy tale coming up, with "Mirror Mirror" opening on March 30 and "Snow White and the Huntsman" hitting theaters on June 1.
