New on DVD and Blu-ray: 'Immortals,' 'Footloose' and More

This week: Mickey Rourke attempts to unleash the Titans in "Immortals," a remake of "Footloose" cuts loose, Adam Sandler is doubly unfunny in "Jack and Jill," a young couple goes crazy being apart in "Like Crazy," and "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" makes a noble Blu-ray debut.

'Immortals'

Box Office: $84 million

Rotten Tomatoes: 36% Rotten

Storyline: Eons after the immortal Titans were imprisoned by the gods, power-mad King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) declares war on humanity and searches for the magical Epirus Bow that can release the revenge-thirsty Titans and destroy the gods, including Zeus (Luke Evans) and Poseidon (Kellan Lutz). One peasant named Theseus (Henry Cavill) comes forth with his allies to take on Hyperion and prevent another all-out war between the immortals.

Extras! An alternate opening featuring a young Theseus and two alternate endings are included on the Blu-ray. This immortal smackdown is also available on Blu-ray 3-D for those with a home-theater setup worthy of the gods.

We Say: Loosely based on the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur as well as Titanomachy, this visually stunning excuse to go Greek features a loony performance by Rourke and a preview of the muscle Cavill can bring as Superman in "Man of Steel."

'Footloose' (2011)

Box Office: $52 million

Rotten Tomatoes: 70% Fresh

Storyline: This remake of the 1984 Kevin Bacon picture follows a young man (Kenny Wormald) who moves from Boston to a small Southern town in which unsupervised dancing has been banned.

Extras! The Blu-ray's "Jump Back: Reimagining 'Footloose'" compares and contrasts the original movie with the remake and explains why certain changes were made.

We Say: "Footloose" has been updated for a new generation with energized dance numbers and spirit to spare, even if it follows the original plot a little too closely -- right down to the hero's still-silly-and-spastic dance solo in an empty warehouse.

'Jack and Jill'

Box Office: $74 million

Rotten Tomatoes: 3% Rotten

Storyline: Jack (Adam Sandler) is a successful Los Angeles ad executive who dreads the arrival of his twin sister Jill (Adam Sandler) every Thanksgiving because her needy, passive-aggressive behavior turns his family life upside down.

Extras! Bonus features like "Here Comes Jill" and "Boys Will Be Girls" on the DVD and Blu-ray highlight the supposedly knee-slapping outrageousness of a guy dressing in drag.

We Say: Sandler's excruciatingly painful "comedy" costarring Katie Holmes, with a WTF?-appearance by Al Pacino, received a whopping 12 Razzie nominations this year, including Worst Picture and both Worst Actor and Worst Actress for Sandler. Now that is something to laugh at.

'Like Crazy'

Box Office: $3 million

Rotten Tomatoes: 73% Fresh

Storyline: A British college student (Felicity Jones) finds her first love in an American classmate (Anton Yelchin), only to be separated from him when she violates the terms of her visa.

Extras! Both the DVD and Blu-ray contain deleted and alternate scenes with optional commentary.

We Say: If you've ever felt the pain and know the challenges of being separated from your significant other, then you will connect with these two young lovers as they embark on a life-altering journey.

'Monty Python and the Holy Grail' Blu-ray

Box Office: $128 million worldwide

Rotten Tomatoes: 95% Fresh

Storyline: This irreverent 1975 comedy classic starring Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones, Michael Palin, John Cleese, Eric Idle and Graham Chapman is the second "Monty Python" movie and parodies King Arthur's quest to find the Holy Grail.

Extras! This Blu-ray debut is loaded with funny bonus features like sing-alongs, "'Monty Python and the Holy Grail' in Lego," "How to Use Your Coconuts (An Educational Film)" and backbiting commentary by the comedy group.

We Say: This seminal film is considered one of the greatest comedies of all time and gets a welcome upgrade to Blu-ray, complete with Second Screen capability, a new introduction by Gilliam for his lost animation reel and Jones' introduction of the outtakes.
