Considering all the hype surrounding the upcoming March 23 release of "The Hunger Games" — not to mention Lionsgate's expertly run media campaign, which has kept the film in the public eye around the clock — you'd figure that we've heard pretty much everything there is to know about "The Hunger Games" by now.

But according to a new behind-the-scenes look from The Hollywood Reporter, there are still a lot of secrets to be revealed yet.

Like the shocking injury to star Jennifer Lawrence that almost sank the entire franchise.

So what's the scoop behind Lawrence's secret injury, which took place on the very last day of preparation and came thiiiiis close to sidelining her and ending the whole "Hunger Games" experience before it even began? "I had to do 10 'wall runs,' where you run at the wall as hard as you can to get traction," Lawrence said. "I ran at it and my foot didn’t go up, so I caught the wall with my stomach. My trainer thought I had burst my spleen. I had to get a CAT scan and go into a tube where they put this fiery liquid in your body."

Luckily for her -- and for "Hunger Games" fans everywhere -- she had an ace up her sleeve: Her mutant healing power.

"I was still pretty bulked up from "X-Men: First Class." So a lot of the training was getting muscle back," Lawrence said, "heightening the muscles without building them." The result? Thanks to her training from Professor Xavier, her close encounter with a brick wall ended with massive bruises but no broken bones and internal injuries, allowing the shoot to proceed as planned.

But the injury wasn't the only time Lawrence's participation was in doubt, as the actress revealed that she originally debated whether or not to take the role at all for three full days — and only a phone call from her mother finally helped her make up her mind.

"I called my mom and she called me a hypocrite, because when I was doing indie movies and everyone was asking why I didn’t do studio movies, I said, 'The size of the movie doesn’t matter.' And she said, 'Here's a movie you love and you were thinking of turning it down because of its size.' I thought, 'I don’t want to miss out because I'm scared. Me being scared, I never want that to stop me from doing something.' But I knew in my heart that I wanted it — it was about working out all the fears."

So what would have happened if Lawrence had opted out or been too injured to continue? Turns out director Gary Ross had some pretty good options: He had already auditioned Shailene Woodley for the role, long before she went on to earn a Golden Globe nomination for her role in last fall's "The Descendants."

Oh, and one last thing. Lawrence's wall of death isn't the only obstacle the cast and crew of "The Hunger Games" faced; according to The Hollywood Reporter, there were over 300 actual, live bears prowling the woods where the movie was shot -- and "they would come out at the slightest scent of food."

Looks like we finally know the true reason why it's called "The Hunger Games."
