As all "Star Wars" buffs know, Yoda, the eternal grandmaster of the Jedi, once famously said, "Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering."
But what most fans don't realize is that there's more to the quote. The rest of the line?
"And all of that leads to some totally bitchin' 3-D Darth Maul glasses."
Okay, so maybe we've taken some liberties. But we hope you'll forgive us — and yourselves — for embracing the dark side, because according to The Los Angeles Times, George Lucas is planning to tempt viewers to go see "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace 3D" by giving out some fantastic Darth Maul collectible specs. Looks like the Sith just hit the fan.
Lucas is once again trotting out the ultimate cash cow, as the entire "Star Wars" saga is returning to theaters, beginning with "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace 3D" on Feb. 10. But while we've all seen the movies before, nobody has ever seen them quite like this, as Lucas has used his high tech special effects powers to retro fit the whole franchise with a sparkling new 3-D transfer.
That's pretty much reason enough to check out pop culture's most beloved series on the big screen. But just in case you're somehow still not convinced, Lucas is taking no chances; besides the Darth Maul 3-D glasses being handed out to fans who attend RealD theaters on opening day, he's also giving patrons of AMC Theaters another sweet treat, namely a free Hasbro "Star Wars" Fighter Pod toy set.
And at select locations there will be even more, including "a Lego feature area, Darth Maul face painting, character appearances, special pod-racer 3-D glasses, a demonstration of the upcoming Xbox Kinnect "Star Wars" game and a Hasbro collectible toy giveaway."
Sorry, Mace Windu. But this time, it looks like we're going to have to pick the side giving out all the awesome swag.
