The Orange Wednesdays Rising Star Award at the BAFTAs is all about the boys this year.
Adam Deacon, Chris Hemsworth, Chris O'Dowd, Eddie Redmayne and Tom Hiddleston make up the list of nominees who will battle it out for the prestigious award. These nominations recognize five international actors and actresses whose talent has captured the imagination of the British public. The winner will be announced at the star-studded Orange British Academy Film Awards on Sunday, Feb. 12, at London's Royal Opera House.
While some names (like Hemsworth) are more familiar than others, each of these up-and-comers has a genuine claim to fame. Deacon is probably best known for the comedy "Anuvahood," which he wrote, and directed and starred in. As for Hemsworth, after his role as the titular "Thor" last year, he has become quite the leading man — he'll reprise his role in "The Avengers" soon and will next been seen opposite Kristen Stewart in "Snow White and the Huntsman."
O'Dowd might not ring any bells, that is until we remind you that he played Kristen Wiig's boyfriend in "Bridesmaids." (Not Jon Hamm. The other one.) Yeah, he's that guy we all fell in love with pretty much the instant we saw him. Sigh.
Redmayne is a theater actor who recently moved to the silver screen in "My Week with Marilyn" and is set to star in the upcoming "Les Miserables. And, of course, Hiddleston's recent flicks include "Thor," Woody Allen's "Midnight in Paris" and Steven Spielberg's "War Horse."
In other words, these boys aren't spending lots of time chillin' on the couch ... maybe once the winner is announced they can take a break. But probably not.
