If you weren't yet convinced that fairy tales are the new comic book movies, you most definitely will be after you check out what a comic book movie veteran like Bryan Singer does with an old chestnut -- or bean, rather.
The director of "X-Men," "X2" and "Superman Returns" teams up with "X-Men: First Class" star Nicholas Hoult for "Jack the Giant Killer," an epic-looking take on "Jack and the Beanstalk." You know the story -- Jack (Hoult) plants some magic beans that produce a giant beanstalk, which connects the Earth to a race of fearsome giants and starts an all-out war for world supremacy.
Well, maybe Singer and friends are taking a few liberties with the story you grew up with. But you get the general idea.
Like "Snow White and the Huntsman," "Jack" doesn't look like a kiddie fairy tale -- no, this is a movie where burning trees get catapulted into castles and giants stomp around and smush people. Awesome.
