Seth Rogen Brings Independent Spirt to Awards Hosting Duties

Seth Rogen is funny. Seth Rogen looks like a teddy bear. However, unlike some of the other popular celebs who fit his description, Seth Rogen isn't known to drop homophobic slurs at press junkets or insult virtually every audience member in a room full of people writing his checks. For this reason, Seth Rogen may be the only cuddly guy in Hollywood with a future in the awards business after Xenu gets back at Ricky Gervais for last year's Golden Globes.

The star has just been announced as the host of the 2012 Independent Spirit Awards, a position held last year by "Community" star Joel McHale. This year's nominees include a number of box office hits, including "Drive," and Rogen's own cancer comedy "50/50," which scored three nominations.

Film Independent Senior Director Sean McManus says of the non-profit's choice of host, "We’re incredibly excited to have Seth as the host for the 2012 Film Independent Spirit Awards and join us in celebrating this year’s exquisite films and talented filmmaking artists. Seth’s charm, intelligence and quick wit are sure to light up the room and will make for a truly entertaining afternoon."

The event, produced by Diana Zahn-Storey, will be held in California on the afternoon of Feb. 25 and will be broadcast on the IFC channel at 10 PM Eastern and Pacific time that evening.
