The first official images from the set of Baz Luhrmann's highly anticipated adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel "The Great Gatsby" hit the internet today and frankly, they look, well... great.

Starring Leonardo DiCaprio as the titular protagonist, "The Great Gatsby" also features Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire and current It-Guy Joel Edgerton ("Warrior"), all dolled up and decked out in their finest mid-'20s flapper decadence. And now that we've seen the results, take it from us: Leo hasn't looked this good in years.

Of course, it helps to have the luminous Mulligan by your side as well. And surely the source material suits DiCaprio; the story of the rise and fall of a high society bootlegger is considered to be arguably the quintessential American tale, giving DiCaprio one of the juiciest roles not just of his career, but of anybody's career.

That might explain why he looks 20 pounds lighter and 10 years younger in these new photos, which showcase DiCaprio and his co-stars in character. We'd gush some more, but really, the pictures speak for themselves. Take a look, courtesy of Warner Bros., and start changing your plans for Christmas 2012.
