In the true spirit of the franchise, star Vin Diesel has confirmed that a seventh "Fast & Furious" is already in the works—even though shooting the sixth hasn't started yet. (According to the action hero, the story is just "too massive" to be corralled into a single movie.)
Diesel explains that the scripts are being written simultaneously (which is a pretty tall order if you ask us, but we digress). No word yet on whether they will shoot the installments back-to-back or if the cast and crew will get a little break in between. But, let's be honest, this franchise isn't really about taking things slow.
Why the rush? It's really a matter of housekeeping. "With the success of the last one, and the inclusion of so many characters, and the broadening of scope, when we were sitting down to figure out what would fit into the real estate of number six, we didn't have enough space," Diesel says.
Just to refresh your memory, the possible cast now includes: Michelle Rodriguez, Eva Mendes, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris Bridges, Matt Schulze, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Elsa Pataky and Dwayne Johnson. And yes, in case you're wondering, that is a lot of characters to jam into two-hours of car wrecks deeply moving cinema.
Diesel tells Empire Online, "We have to pay off this story, we have to service all of these character relationships, and when we started mapping all that out it just went beyond 110 pages. The studio said, 'You can’t fit all that story in one damn movie!'"
So there you have it. The studio has spoken. Mark your calendar now, because "Fast & Furious 6" screeches into theaters May 27, 2013.
