Sasha Baron Cohen has come a long way since Borat, not that we didn't love the not-so-politically-correct funny man from… er… where was he from again? Wherever it was, those days are behind him, because this comedian is about to show us his drama chops as the iconic Freddie Mercury in a biopic that's now set shoot in 2012-- like, in a few months.
Though nothing is official yet, producer Graham King (the force behind "Gangs of New York" and the soon-to-release "Hugo" among others) just confirmed to Cinema Blend that cameras should (finally) be rolling sometime next year, from a script that may or may not have been penned by scribe Peter Morgan.
In other words, details remain murky—but one thing is clear: King seems to have found somebody to love in Cohen, musing, "Who better to play Freddie Mercury than Sacha Baron Cohen?... He's so talented, and you see a side of him in 'Hugo' that no one has ever seen before. Very emotional, and very heartfelt."
All we can say is we've got our fingers crossed that this gets going according to schedule, because if anyone can harness the power of Queen, we're pretty sure it's Ali G Borat Bruno Cohen.
