Leonardo DiCaprio is one hungry hungry hippo for some Oscar love. He's been to the show three times and always gone home empty-handed, but his persistence in taking Academy-caliber roles makes us think he's not gonna take "no" for an answer.
Now the thrice-nominated "Aviator" thespian is once again gunning for a gold guy in Oscar-generating machine Clint Eastwood's "J. Edgar," which has all the right ingredients: period-piece biopic, old-age makeup, homosexuality, Judi Dench.
Leo's somewhat transparent lust for an Academy Award is lampooned to startling effect in the new Funny or Die video "L. DiCaprio," which takes the epic trailer for "J. Edgar" and manipulates the soundtrack (just a tad) to reflect what's really going on in the subtext.
With the film opening this weekend, we'll find out if this really is "the one" for DiCaprio, or if those lightbulbs for his mahogany and bulletproof-glass Oscar display case will go unused for yet another year.
