If there's one thing Hollywood needs more of, it's young, good-looking actors making tween girls compete to create the most dolphin-like scream. Jake Abel, best known for his role as Luke Castellan in "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief" is about to find out how much adulation his eardrums can take with his upcoming role in "The Host," the film adaptation of "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer's novel of the same name.
Deadline reports that Abel, who broke out of the gate in traditional teen heartthrob fashion with a Disney movie, is in negotiations to star as male lead Ian in the film.
"The Host" tells the story of Melanie Stryder (played by Abel's "The Lovely Bones" costar Saoirse Ronan), whose body is taken over by an alien named Wanderer. Ian is at first violent toward Wanderer and tries to strangle her, only to realize ultimately that he has fallen in love with her.
The role of Melanie's boyfriend, Jared, has yet to be cast, although four young actors are being considered: "Game of Thrones" star Kit Harrington, Max Irons, Jai Courtney and Miley Cyrus' man-friend and "Hunger Games" star Liam Hemsworth.
The Andrew Niccol-directed movie is scheduled for a 2013 release.
