Hayden Panettiere and Melissa Leo are heading top speed toward a new starring vehicle.
The "Scream 4" screamer and Oscar-winning "Fighter" mom are joining the cast of the car racing drama, "Over the Wall," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Nick Stahl ("Sin City") and Freddy Rodriguez ("Planet Terror") also star in the story set in the world of stock car racing. The plot follows a husband, wife, surrogate mother and best friend as they attempt to recover from the turmoil of a tragic event (which we're guessing is a car racing accident).
We have to admit, we weren't sure how "Heroes" cutie Hayden Panettiere would do in making the transition from television to feature films, but when she ended up being the best thing (by far) about "Scream 4," we were totally sold on her future as a movie star. More Hayden, please.
And Melissa Leo is, of course, a force of nature who can bring her intense mama bear fury to any movie any time she likes. Kim Basinger was originally attached to the project but it looks like Leo has taken over the role.
Hayden Panettiere will next be seen in the art forgery drama, "Carmel," which will hit theaters in March 2012. Melissa Leo is currently filming Robert Zemeckis' thriller, "Flight," which also stars Denzel Washington, John Goodman and Don Cheadle.
"Over the Wall" begins production next spring in Ohio and North Carolina under the direction of Steven Christopher Young, who's making his feature directorial debut.
