Taylor Lautner is looking for some indie cred -- and Gus Van Sant is looking to give some.
In a team-up that's got us all sorts of excited (and curious), the "Twilight" star and "Restless" director are joining forces for an indie drama -- one that's currently shrouded in secrecy, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Lautner had dinner with Van Sant and "Milk" screenwriter Dustin Lance Black recently and apparently this is the project that has sprung forth from that meeting. Lautner will produce and star in the film, which is reportedly based on a New Yorker article that the "Abduction" star had optioned. We're assuming Black will be writing the screenplay.
Gus Van Sant was actually one of the potential directors that Summit approached when looking for someone to call the shots on "Breaking Dawn," so it's safe to assume that the seeds for the Lautner-Van Sant team-up were planted then.
After "Abduction" didn't set fire to the box office, going indie is a great move on Lautner's part, and the perfect way to begin forging a career path post-"Twilight."
Stay tuned for more details on this exciting endeavor as we get 'em. For now, get ready for Taylor Lautner's penultimate bow as Jacob Black in "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1," opening Nov. 18.
