Kerry Washington is one of the most underrated actresses in Hollywood -- see her performances in "Ray" and "The Last King of Scotland" if you don't believe us -- but while she has had her moments in the sun, we've been waiting a long time for someone to really let her loose.
And it looks like Quentin Tarantino is the man for the job, because according to Deadline, Washington just got "Unchained."
"Django Unchained," that is. Quick recap for those of you who thought rewriting history itself with a movie about Jews assassinating Hitler was pushing the boundaries as far as they could go: "Django Unchained" is Tarantino's upcoming 19th century epic about an escaped slave (Washington's "Ray" co-star Jamie Foxx) who, after being trained by a bounty hunter ("Inglorious Basterds" Oscar winner Christoph Waltz), returns to his plantation to free his wife and exact revenge.
As you might guess from that synopsis, there's nothing really pleasant in store for Washington in the role of said enslaved wife. But given the fact that this is written by Tarantino, we're guessing her character -- who goes by the name Broomhilda, for all you comic strip buffs -- will at least get to fire off some witty lines and probably kick someone's ass at some point.
Either way, we're just stoked to see what Washington can do when given free reign by a director of Tarantino's skill. Looks like all those protesters demanding change in Washington finally got their wish.
