"What is the city but the people?"
Ralph Fiennes plays one of the Bard's angriest tragic heroes in this lusty modern-day adaptation that sports an impressive dramatic personae, including Gerard Butler, Jessica Chastain, Vanessa Redgrave and Brian Cox.
Fiennes also directs this tale of a Roman war hero whose hatred of the people he defends leads to his banishment from the city, after which he teams up with his sworn enemy, Aufidius (Butler), to attack the place he once called home.
It's been a while since we had a really good Shakespeare adaptation, and this one looks like it has the potential to claim a place next to Kenneth Branagh's "Henry V" as one of the best ever. Fiennes looks like he knows this character inside and out (he played the role in a recent stage production as well), and he seems to know what he's doing behind the camera, too.
One thing's for sure -- he certainly didn't pick a "small" movie for his directorial debut!
