Two more recruits are headed for the dangerous waters of Guillermo del Toro's epic alien invasion film.
Willem Dafoe and up-and-coming young star Robert Kazinsky will soon be reporting for duty on the set of "Pacific Rim," according to Variety.
It seems strange that Dafoe has never worked with del Toro before, but "Pacific Rim" will mark their first collaboration. The former Green Goblin will be playing a "rogue scientist with expertise on alien creatures" -- sounds like he's got the "crazy" part, a la Woody Harrelson in "2012."
Meanwhile, Kazinsky, whose credits include the television series "EastEnders" and "Dream Team," is probably feeling better about having to drop out of "The Hobbit" (for personal reasons, apparently) now that he's snagged a role in another high-profile genre film. He'll be playing a member of the team that's fighting the alien invaders in their awesome giant robot-suits.
Dafoe and Kazinsky join a cast that includes Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Max Martini and Rinko Kikuchi.
Production on "Pacific Rim" will commence in November with a look toward a July 12, 2013 release date.
