For the last several months, the internet has been abuzz with the sound of fans arguing over, dissecting and critiquing every photo of Jennifer Lawrence from the upcoming adaptation of "The Hunger Games." But while we're always excited for more pics of Katniss Everdeen, what we really want to get a look at are her hunky companions, Gale and Peeta.
Done and done.
Hold on to your mockingjay pins, people, because Entertainment Weekly has just released the first photo of Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson as the two men who vie for Katniss' affection -- and it's a steamy cover shot you won't soon forget.
For those not in the know -- a.k.a. the nine people left who haven't read the Suzanne Collins series about Everdeen, a girl who is chosen by a despotic government to fight to the death for the televised entertainment of the masses -- Peeta and Gale are her two would-be suitors; the one, Peeta (Hutcherson), is calm, kind and decent while the other, Gale (Hemsworth), is fiery, passionate and rugged.
In the books they are polar opposites, but in real life, it turns out that Hemsworth and Hutcherson have as much offscreen chemistry with each other as they have onscreen chemistry with Lawrence.
"I think it’s going to blow people’s minds when they see that Peeta and Gale are actually best friends in real life," Hutcherson told Entertainment Weekly, with director Gary Ross adding that Hemsworth in particular is opening eyes.
"On first glance, he’s such a hunk that it’s easy to just sort of ascribe a hunk-like simplicity to him," Ross said. "But this is a phenomenally subtle actor."
There's nothing subtle about this photo, though. So take a deep breath and let the fan parsing begin. And enjoy it; after all, March 23 will be here before you know it, so you should savor this while you can.
