Remember "Pirates of the Caribbean?" Big action franchise that made billions and billions of dollars worldwide thanks to Johnny Depp's iconic turn as Captain Jack Sparrow? Yeah, that was pretty cool, but when it comes to pirate movies, that's the past -- and "The Pirates! Band of Misfits" is most definitely the future.

Don't believe us? Well, check out the brand new trailer -- and see what "Pirates of the Caribbean" might have looked like if it had been created by the team that brought the world "Wallace & Gromit."

Yeah, we thought that might get your attention.

And just to make sure that they get everybody's attention, the Oscar winning squad at Aardman Animation has released not one, but two trailers for "The Pirates!," which is based on the popular kids book "The Pirates! in an Adventure with Scientists" by Gideon Defoe. One, for British audiences, features some old fashioned pirate-y singing, while we here on the right side of the ocean are treated to a traditional trailer that highlights the film's strong voice cast (Hugh Grant, Salma Hayek, David Tennant, et al).

So check them out, courtesy of Apple Trailers and The Guardian. And don't shed a tear for Captain Jack; he had his run, but survival of the funniest is simply the pirate way.
