"21 Jump Street" was once Johnny Depp's hallowed hunting ground, but that will all change in 2012 when a new breed of baby-faced cops will infiltrate high schools to fight crime among teens.
Now it's headed for the big screen, and the latest addition is fresh-faced Ellie Kemper from "Bridesmaids." Kemper will play a science teacher who has some real chemistry with an undercover cop played by ab-tacular Channing Tatum. Kemper played an innocent new wife in "Bridesmaids," but things are about to get a little steamier for the up-and-coming actress, especially with Tatum as a love interest.
The script for "21" was written by Jonah Hill and Michael Bacall ("Scott Pilgrim vs. the World"), so you can expect it to be at least a little raunchy and a lot funny. With a cast that includes Ice Cube, Brie Larson, Dakota Johnson, Dave Franco, Rob Riggle and (a newly-skinny) Hill, this will definitely be a new iteration of the "Jump Street" some of us grew up with. Depp has agreed to do a cameo and will hopefully leave the Jack Sparrow dreads at home that day.
"Bridesmaids" has already served as an awesome launching pad for some of its stars. Besides the possible sequel, director Paul Feig is developing a project with and for "Gilmore Girls" fave Melissa McCarthy. Meanwhile, McCarthy is working on a project with "Bridesmaids" co-writer Annie Mumolo.
So, who's next? Chris O'Dowd, anyone?
