Larry David isn't exactly known for putting on crazy costumes, weird make-up, or elaborate characters. But that's about to change.
According to Deadline, David has signed on to "Stooges" in the role of Mother Mengele. She is the unfortunate lady in charge of the orphanage where the Stooges grow up and hone their craft of craziness.
Casting a Jewish man in the role of a Catholic nun is definitely eyebrow raising, especially since she has the name of a notorious Nazi. David hasn't been one for outlandish comedy roles, but this has his snarky brand of comedy written all over it.
The fact that Jane Lynch is playing his Mother Superior should give you a picture of just how nutty and mean this orphanage is and how it spawned the Stooges.
David's casting news is also the first indication we've had that "The Three Stooges" will feature some origin story for the three knuckleheads. Larry, Curly and Moe were never given any backstory in their original films, as each one usually had its own story.
The Farrelly Bros' film promises to take these three icons in a whole new direction and, with David and Lynch on board, we anticipate some great verbal slaps to go along with the Stooges' physical ones.
