It's so beautiful when a loving director/actress couple work together on a film, and it's a testament to how it strengthens their union, just like Sam Mendes and Kate Winsle… er, just like Tim Robbins and Susan Sarand… er, just like Woody Allen and… uh, oh. Hmm.
Well, Joel Coen and Frances McDormand are still together, anyway, and now it looks like Len Wiseman of "Underworld" fame is pairing with his British hottie wife Kate Beckinsale for a third go-round on the remake of 1990's ultraviolent classic "Total Recall."
Deadline reports Beckinsale somehow or other caught Wiseman's eye and beat out others under consideration like Kate Bosworth, Diane Kruger, Jessica Biel and Eva Mendes for the part of Lori, lead character Douglas Quaid's duplicitous wife.
In the Paul Verhoeven version, Lori proved a star-making turn for Sharon Stone, who got to take part in one of the great exchanges in cinema history, as seen in the original's trailer…
STONE: You wouldn't hurt me, after all, we're married.
(Arnold shoots her).
SCHWARZENEGGER: Consider that a divorce.
Now Beckinsale would pair with Irish badboy Colin Farrell, who will probably go a little more cerebral than Ah-nuld. As for the other female lead, the ass-kicking Melina originated by Rachel Ticotin is still up for grabs, with Eva Mendes and Rosario Dawson currently vying to rock Farrell's world.
Unlike the original, the new film will NOT take place on Mars, otherwise the headline of this article would have totally been "Mars Needs MILFs."
