If you haven't caught the half dozen of direct-to-DVD "American Pie" sequels that have sneaked their way into Walmarts and Netflix Watch Instantly queues over the past few years, don't fret -- all the important franchise mythology is contained in the first three films.
You're ready for the fourquel.
"American Reunion" is officially locked and loaded, with the final piece of the puzzle, Alyson Hannigan, set to co-star in the flick. Deadline confirmed that the "How I Met Your Mother" actress was the final cast member from the original trilogy ("American Pie," "American Pie 2," "American Wedding") to join the fourth installment, "American Reunion."
Her wavering status, according to the article, was mostly due to newfound success and payment negotiations.
At the time of the first "American Pie," Hannigan was a co-star in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," which gave her recognizability, but simply on par with most her "Pie" compatriots (including Sean William Scott, Jason Biggs, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Chris Klein, Tara Reid and Mena Suvari). Now, with "HIMYM" being the huge success that it is, Hannigan had a few bargaining chips on her side -- and, one can assume, took home a nice chunk money for returning to "American Reunion."
Business aside, it wouldn't be a "Pie" film without Hannigan and an actual coming-together of the various comedic talents should be a pleasure to watch on screen. "American Reunion" centers around the gang returning home for a high school reunion and Hannigan's Michelle now a mother.
The film is set to be directed by "Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay" duo Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg and should quickly roll into theaters, sometime in 2012.
