Everything's comin' up McShane.

Just this past week we got our first extensive look at former foul-mouthed Western pimp Ian McShane ("Deadwood") as the notorious Blackbeard in the full trailer for "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides."

Now he's trading that yo-ho-ho for a hearty fee-fi-fo-fum as he prepares to board director Bryan Singer's throwback fairy tale "Jack The Giant Killer" for New Line and Legendary Pictures. Singer must have smelled the blood of this Englishman and liked the goods.

The way THR tells the tale, McShane will play King Brahnwell, father of the princess whose kidnapping "threatens the long-standing peace between men and giants." Eleanor Tomlinson plays said princess, while the dashing Nicholas Hoult (soon to be the beastly Nicholas Hoult in "X-Men: First Class") stars as the title farm boy who wants to marry her. Apparently the King's K&R (kidnap & ransom) policy involves sending a party of stout men, including Jack, to deal with the giants who've taken her, possibly up a beanstalk of some kind.

Singer's fractured fairy tale also stars Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Bill Nighy and John Kassir, and should begin lensing soon seeing as how all the elements are coming together. Singer will shoot the picture on 3-D EPIC Red cameras, and says, "the extraordinary exposure latitude will allow me to more effectively explore the use of natural light," which will be handy since the film takes place in a time before electricity.
