Tom Cruise Stunt Photos Prove That We Do, In Fact, Need Him On That Wall

Tom Cruise may not be able to leap a tall building in a single bound, but if you give him a harness and some room to run he'll at least give it a go.

That's the takeaway from the latest round of insane photographs emanating from the set of Cruise's new action vehicle, "Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol." Until now we've been a little unclear what the title was referring to, but now that we've seen these pictures from Collider of Cruise flouncing around on the side of a skyscraper, we've figured it out: the protocol involves creating ghosts through mass internet reader heart attacks.

And Suri's dad isn't toying around with just any skyscraper, mind you; this bad boy is the Burj Khalifa tower in Dubai, which happens to be the tallest building on the whole planet.

So what exactly is Cruise doing? Well, this is going to sound crazy, but he's actually running, Matrix-style, across the face of the building. Yep: Cruise is going somewhere in a big hurry and apparently the only way to get there is to strap himself in a harness and literally run across the face of a ginormous skyscraper.

Holy smokes.

Here's what Cruise had to say in advance of the big stunt, which, yes, he is actually doing himself:

"I’ll be spending many days, many hours on the side of this building.  I can’t give you details, but I will be up there.”

And after seeing these awesome pics, we have just one thing to say: not only do we want him on that wall, we need him on that wall.

"Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol," which is being directed by the awesome Brad Bird ("The Incredibles"), is scheduled to land in theaters on December 16, 2011.
