Ridley Scott has finally finished meeting with prospective stars for his highly anticipated "Alien" prequel and now is ready to sit down with Fox executives to decide who is going to land that leading part.
There's just one problem: he just has too damn many hot women to choose from.
This according to indieWire, which is reporting that the five finalists for the top role are Natalie Portman, Noomi Rapace, Carey Mulligan, Abbie Cornish and, in a surprise last minute addition, Olivia Wilde.
What's a guy to do?
Well, in this case, what a guy like Scott has to do depends largely on the suits at Fox, who are currently slated to shell out $160 million for the production. Because of that, they are apparently going to be very hands-on in terms of the casting process, which means that even though Scott seems to be strongly favoring Rapace she still isn't a shoo-in as the moguls need to be convinced that the Swedish actress has a strong enough grasp of English to play well with domestic audiences.
And that, in turn, may explain why Wilde , who is currently riding a wave of buzz thanks to "TRON: Legacy," has been abruptly added to the mix.
Still, the argument about Rapace's English seems to be a bit of a straw dog; we've had the chance to hear her speak English in plenty of interviews and frankly, she speaks English better than we do, just with a Swedish accent. And, really, this only makes her hotter. Whether or not the studio has confidence in the box office power of relatively unknown foreign star -- as opposed to a proven commodity like Portman -- may be a more serious roadblock.
If Scott and Fox do end up coming to loggerheads, of course, at least they have the luxury of four other extremely talented and really hot actresses to pick from; with Portman and now Wilde in the running, chances are whoever they select will be a hit with audiences. We just hope they pick someone soon because at this point, we just really want to finally see this movie.
So what do you think? Is Rapace's English an issue for you? Would you rather see Wilde in the part regardless? Or do you want to see Portman head off into deep space one more time? Leave a comment and let us know what you think.
Because if there's anybody who is an expert on hot actresses, we know it has to be you.
