If Tyler Perry's upcoming film, "For Colored Girls," is half as good as the cadre of female vocalists he's lined up for the soundtrack, we're getting excited.

The film focuses on eight African-American women and their personal struggles with traumatic events, so it's only fitting that many of the artists featured here are, well, African-American women whose lyrics deal with hefty, emotional issues.

The soundtrack features a mix of classic and current vocalists, placing soul and jazz stalwarts such as Gladys Knight and Nina Simone alongside relative newcomers Janelle Monae and Estelle. The album also includes soul veterans Macy Gray and Shar0n Jones, the latter contributing a new song called "Longer & Stronger." (She's probably talking about the protagonists' friendship, you perverts.)
