Early Thursday morning (March 24), Nick Jonas announced the follow-up to his 2014 self-titled album and promised we’d hear new music soon. Now he’s delivered on that promise with his new single “Close,” which features a guest verse from “Habits” singer Tove Lo.
Over trap beats and timpani, Jonas muses on how terrifying it can be to dive into a new relationship. “Space is just a word made up by someone who’s afraid to get close,” he sings.
“Close” is the first single off of Jonas’s forthcoming third album, Last Year Was Complicated, which is due out on June 10. Given the timing, we’re willing to bet that “Close” is about Jonas’s ex-girlfriend Olivia Culpo, whom he separated from last year.
Jonas also revealed the record's album art on Twitter.
“It’s a song about feeling like you can’t be vulnerable with somebody,” Jonas said of “Close.” Listen below via its steamy music video.
