Trailer: 'Man of Steel'

Forget the park. The new "Man of Steel" trailer knocks it out of the solar system.

Scheduled to run before all prints of "The Hobbit" this weekend, this new 2.5 minute look at next summer's Superman reboot has us absolutely giddy at the prospect of a movie that delivers the serious, down-to-earth approach we were denied with 2006's "Superman Returns."

Gone is the slavish devotion to Richard Donner, the creepy stalker Clark Kent and the fake-ass looking digital doubles. Now we get an origin story in which Supes (Henry Cavill) has to reconcile the literal alienation that comes with his tremendous abilities.

So what are the highlights? How about the keys to the Fortress of Solitude, alien ships implementing MASSIVE amounts of destruction, Laurence Fishburne's Perry White running from a decimated Daily Planet, Amy Adams holding hands with the big blue boyscout and Superman spitting blood! Also, we learn that if we did a contest to see who could hold their breath the longest underwater, Superman would probably win.

Oh, and the way Superman actually changes the energy signature around him before he takes off in flight? AWESOME.

Director Zack Snyder and producer Christopher Nolan have clearly done right by the man from Krypton, so watch him take flight below.
