Johnny Depp is just full of surprises lately, and the latest is that he'll be "appearing" on the Fox TV show "The Family Guy" as the beloved character Edward Scissorhands from Tim Burton's 1990 movie.
The gothy teenager's crush object, a sad-faced ragamuffin in bondage gear, had a talent for cutting hair and magnificent topiary creations but, alas, had to be very careful around his true love Kim (Winona Ryder) lest he slice and dice her, too. Sadly, it sounds unlikely that the Griffin family will be in any similar danger.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Edward Scissorhands will appear in a quick "cutaway gag."
Apparently, Depp and his kids like to watch the show together. We're not saying that it's a good way to get back in their good graces in the aftermath of his nasty split with Vanessa Paradis, but it certainly can't hurt.
"Family Guy" exec producer Mark Hentemann told the mag, "When [Depp] was in the booth, he said that he felt like he hadn't done that voice since he did it in front of the camera … He was able to snap right back into Edward Scissorhands once we pulled up a clip from the movie."
"Scissorhands" not only launched a romance between its two stars, leading to at least one ill-advised tattoo, but it was also the first collaboration between Depp and director/writer Tim Burton. The spooky bromance soldiers on more than a decade later; their most recent movie was this summer's "Dark Shadows," which featured Depp as the ancient vampire Barnabas Collins.
