Although Ridley Scott's latest film "Prometheus" still has film fans in a lather, he's already off and running on his next project. Deadline reports that Penelope Cruz is the latest big name added to the cast of "The Counselor," which will also star Cameron Diaz, Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, and Javier Bardem.
Fassbender, who stole the show as the creepy robot David in "Prometheus," is rocking the lead role as a fancy lawyer who learns the very difficult way that it's impossible to just dabble in drug dealing without getting dirty yourself.
Although there were rumors that Angelina Jolie was being chatted up for the female lead, it's not clear if this is the role that Cruz snagged instead. It also sounds like Pitt doesn't have that big of a part. While promoting "Killing Them Softly" at Cannes, he talked a little bit about his part.
"I'm only doing a few days on that," he said, as a fan of both McCarthy and Scott, and when he was asked if he was playing a criminal, he hedged a bit. "You know, I kinda am… It's ill-defined, but yeah, I kinda am." Either way, there'll be at least one sizzling real-life couple onscreen together.
(If you want some hints as to who might be playing whom, you might be able to sneak a peek at the script online or read reviews of it as well. We're just saying.)
Before filming for "The Counselor" begins, it looks like Cruz will be hooking up with her old pal Pedro Almodóvar. The auteur has famously referred to Cruz as his muse, although she was nowhere to be seen in his spectacular and super-creepy film "The Skin I Live In." Some even wondered if she'd been replaced by "Skin" star Elena Anaya. But, never fear! She'll be shooting a new film with Almodóvar in Madrid this summer called "Los Amantes Pasajeros," or "The Brief Lovers."
In the meantime, she'll be steaming up screens in Woody Allen's next film, "To Rome With Love," which opens on June 22 in limited release.
