Meet The Cast: Don’t Trust the B in Apt 23

So there's this new odd couple comedy about two broke girls living in NYC...and it's not the one that you're thinking of. While the two shows have lots in common, one lacks the outrageous insanity of the worst roommate ever, played by panache by Krysten Ritter. You'll probably recognize her--and the others--as familiar faces. Here's why you know them.

Krysten Ritter, Chloe: The titular witch-with-a-b, Krysten’s got quite a range. I first remember her as the ditzy on-again, off-again friend of Veronica Mars. She also spent time on Gilmore Girls, Woke Up Dead, and mostly recently, Breaking Bad. Krysten speculated that if  Jane Margolis were to visit Apt. 23, she “would probably be dead in two seconds because she would probably be binging on heroin.” In Apt. 23, Krysten’s style is almost as blunt as her bangs.

Dreama Walker, June: Can we all take a second to appreciate that the bright-eyed and sunshine-y actress playing the roommate, June, goes by the even brighter and sunnier name of Dreama? Wow. She played Hazel Williams in Gossip Girl and Becca in The Good Wife, with another one-shot roles scattered here and there. Her cheeriness in the pilot episode is matched only by her surprising ability to be ruthless as needed. Her charm is based on a fine balance between the two.

James Van Der Beek, James Van Der Beek: The Beek doesn’t even need an introduction. You know where you know him from. I’m calling it right now—how they use Dawson will either make or break this show. All of the Creek references and the heightened awareness of his ego might pull away from the central conflict of the show, but the only thing that will save it from being too much relies on how Van Der Beek reacts. So far, his “character” is the most consistently funny thing about the show. Just wait for his fake energy drink commercial. Trust me on this.

Eric Andre, Mark: This guy really did make me go, “Where do I know him from?” Thanks to the help of my trusty IMDb, you might know him from some small roles in The Big Bang Theory and Curb Your Enthusiasm. He was also in The Invention of Lying. Even though he’s not a huge star, I still appreciated his performance in Apt. 23. Hopefully we’ll be seeing more of him.

Liza Lapira, Robin: The former roommate boasts an impressive TV resume. She was in Traffic Light, Dollhouse, NCIS, Huff, and Dexter. Liza was also one of the card-counters in 21 and Emma Stone’s best friend in Crazy, Stupid Love. You know how most shows have a breakout supporting character that you can’t wait to see every week? My money’s on Robin.

Don’t Trust the B in Apt. 23 airs tonight on ABC at 9:30/8:30 Central. After you watch, come back and let us know what you thought!
