Mid-Season Guest Star Round-up

With February Sweeps fast approaching, all of the juiciest casting news is being reported right now. Let’s see who we’ve got coming to grace our screens over the next few months.

New Girl: Dermot Mulroney will play an older love interest for Zooey Deschanel’s Jess. I know, what? He’ll play the father of one of her students and while they initially butt heads, their chemistry is irresistible.  While this may seem like a head scratcher, it will be fun to see how her three roommates react to having an older man around the apartment. (Especially Schmidt!)

Parks and Recreation: A while back they announced that Kathryn Hahn would show up to play the campaign manager of Leslie’s opponent in the race for city council. That would have been enough for me because I adore Kathryn Hahn and think she’s fantastically talented. But Parks and Rec didn’t stop there. Carl Reiner is going to hold a key role in Leslie’s campaign as one of the top senior citizens in the town. And saving the best casting news for last, Paul Rudd has been cast as Leslie’s opponent. Paul Rudd, he of the goofy grin and amazing hair and the object of Cher Horowitz’s totally butt crazy love, is going to make the perfect addition to the Pawnee family. Let me channel Chris Traeger for a moment and say that I LITERALLY cannot wait to see how this plays out.

Suburgatory: Speaking of Clueless, Alicia Silverstone is headed for the ‘burgs. I have to give Emily Kapnek major props for arranging this mini-reunion between Cher and Elton. Alicia’s character, Eden, will be around for multiple episodes as a love interest for George (Jeremy Sisto). And who knows? Maybe she’ll help him find that Cranberries CD that he left in the quad.

30 Rock: If you caught the end of last night’s episode, you’ll know that Liz has a new man in her life. That beanie-wearing gentleman is none other than James Marsden. (Liz always gets the BEST guys—Jason Sudeikis, Jon Hamm, and Matt Damon have all had their chance.) Maybe this one’s a keeper? Coming up on the January 26th episode, we have a star-studded list of actors including Andy Samberg, Nick Cannon, and my future BFF Emma Stone. Word has it that Jenna will be joining them for a holiday movie called Martin Luther King Day. Will Arnett will return as Devon Banks and Kristen Schaal, Denise Richards, and Kelsey Grammer will all have guest roles. By the hammer of Thor, I’m glad that 30 Rock is back.

The Good Wife: Jonathan Groff is coming to court as a plaintiff suing a software company. Alicia and crew will help in the case, which involves the software company’s involvement in the disappearance of Groff’s on-screen sister in Syria. This episode will also feature plenty of fan favorites from the show. EW reports that this list involves “Rita Wilson as Viola Walsh, Golden Globe Award nominee Parker Posey as Vanessa Gold, Denis O’Hare as Judge Charles Abernathy, Emmy Award winner Edward Herrmann as Lionel Deerfield, John Benjamin Hickey as Neil Gross, Amy Sedaris as Stacie Hall, Renee Elise Goldsberry as Geneva Pine, Anna Camp as Caitlin D’Arcy, Monica Raymund as Dana Lodge, and Jack Carpenter as Patrick Edelstein.” Keep an eye out for this episode on February 19th.

Other casting news includes Whoopi Goldberg on The Middle, Bobby Cannavale on Modern Family, Becki Newton on How I Met Your Mother, Ricky Martin on Glee,  and 50 Cent on The Finder.
