Fox Fall Preview: Execs Stay Mum On American Idol

Still no official word on the identity of the new judging panel on TV's biggest show -- despite the fact that Fox execs addressed a roomful of hungry journalists in Beverly Hills Monday morning.

"First of all, let me tell you who the new American Idol judges will be," teased Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly.

The network says they would have loved to break the news today. But contracts still needed to be signed with the potential new talent.

Some Fox insiders say negotiations could still fall through. In fact, a few would probably like that to happen, if for no other reason than to prove some of those pesky Internet rumors false.

But right now, it looks like unless something goes wrong in the final deals, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler will be on board for this year to replace outgoing judges Ellen DeGeneres and Simon Cowell, respectively. Kara DioGuardi probably will not be back, although Randy Jackson is a safe bet.

Fox head Peter Rice says he knew Ellen DeGeneres would not be back. She told him she didn't think it was a good fit and she was uncomfortable with the role of critic. Rice tried to work something out, but DeGeneres opted out.
