Oh, Kasey. What do you have to say for yourself?
The hopeless romantic/tattoo enthusiast spoke to reporters Thursday about guarding and protecting Ali's heart, getting left on a glacier in Iceland, and what he was thinking when he got the tattoo that will go down in Bachelorette history.
By the way, Jake and Vienna will be exclusive interviewed post-breakup on The Bachelorette episode on July 5.
Now that you've had some time to process everything, do you have any regrets about getting the tattoo?
No, not at all. The tattoo's awesome. It's an amazing thing I got for myself, I love it. It's a great thing.
"Guard and protect your heart" became your motto on the show. Is that something you've always said?
I've always had that belief because of the things I saw happen to my mother. I've always wanted to guard and protect her heart. It became a motto of the show because that's who I am.
When you watch the show and see that Ali asked you to take a step back, how do you feel?
I came on the show to open up. I've had some bad relationships in the past, and I haven't been able to open up and be vulnerable. I came on the show and I was like, I can do this. I can be open. So that's what I did. I want to find love and that's the way I approached it.
How do you feel the way the other guys treated you? Are you friends with any of them?
I love every single guy on the show. There was tension between certain people in the house, but I built a good strong foundation of relationships with the guys. I think we'll be friends for life.
Do you feel you were fairly edited?
The cameras are running 24-7 and the producers are there to do a show, so you don't get to see everything. And that's OK. I feel that yeah I'm happy with the way things worked out. You got to see a piece of me when I was honest and personal and vulnerable.
You got eliminated in a dramatic way. What was going through your head when you were standing on the glacier?
It was a tough kind of emotional experience. You're standing there and you're watching a girl you cared about and she chose someone else over you. It's definitely not fun. You see a guy who you know is there for the wrong reasons, and she chose him over you. ... It was not meant to be.
You said the tattoo wasn't for Ali. So why did you get it?
The tattoo, I got it to show that I was genuine and sincere because that's who I am. I wanted to show Ali I was here for you and here for the right reasons, but in the long run it's for me, because I always want to guard and protect the heart of my wife. I got it for myself to know that that's who I am and I never have to change for anybody.
It was heartbreaking to see you get left on that glacier. Are you back in the dating world now?
It is what it is. Life goes on and it wasn't heartbreaking at all. In the same way she didn't have a connection with me, I didn't have a connection with her. I just got off the show, I would love to get back in the dating world. There's a good friend that I have, but I'm just taking it slow. The show really built so much confidence in who I am.
Are you smooth with the ladies?
I'm not. I'm a big dork. Sometimes I would get nervous and not know what to say.
What are you looking for in a woman?
I'm looking for a woman who wants to guard and protect my heart. I want someone who's fun and spunky and ambitious and knows how to reciprocate feelings.
What's your reaction to Justin having a girlfriend back home?
I didn't even know that. That's pretty intense, wow. I wouldn't be surprised if he had a girlfriend back home. Ali made the wrong choice with a guy like that. It kind of sucks. I feel like I didn't get enough of a chance with Ali to show her who I really was.
Is there a particular person in the house who is right for Ali?
In my personal opinion I think Frank would be great for Ali. He's everything that she's looking for. Frank is a great guy.
Have you heard that Frank is one of the guys who had a girlfriend back home?
I have no idea. I try to stay away from the blogs and everything. I don't see Frank having a girlfriend like Justin, at all. I wouldn't see that.
How long were you standing on the glacier?
Let me tell you, it was cold out there. It was pretty quick. They came and picked me up in a snow truck or something like that. It was cool because I got to see the whole glacier from the floor, from the ground.
I heard a rumor that you altered the tattoo. Is that true?
No, I would never change the tattoo. I love the tattoo. It shows who I am. I wouldn't want to change that, like I wouldn't want to change who I am.
Toward the end of the episode, Craig drew on a tattoo and made a joke out of it. How did you feel as you saw that?
I just laughed. I love Craig. He's an awesome guy and he has a great sense of humor. I can laugh with him too, so more power to him.
How nervous were you before you went out on that two-on-one date with Justin?
I gotta tell you, [being on the show], it's like an emotional roller coaster. You don't what to expect, you don't know what's next. I knew what was coming when I found out the other guys were going on a group date, and it was like, OK, here we go. I have to deal with another emotional experience. I didn't know what to expect.
How much did you know about Ali before going on the show?
I watched a little bit, I didn't get too much into it. When I found out it was her, I was very excited. She's a great catch, she's a great woman.
How's life been since the show? Do people recognize you?
Everyone always wants to see the tattoo. It's awesome because I get to show a piece of myself for everyone. It's been fun, I enjoy it. It is what it is.
A lot of people don't think she picked anybody is in the end. Do you think she's engaged?
I think Ali knows exactly what she wants. If she felt the connection with one of them, she's definitely engaged. If not, then she wouldn't be. She's not going to front anything.
What was your favorite moment from your time on the show?
That's a tough one. I have to say it was the very first moment that I saw Ali. It was like the beginning of a new adventure.
