It's official: NBC has cancelled the original Law & Order after 20 years.
The show that spawned a dozen (OK, slight exaggeration) spinoffs will air its final episode May 24. Law & Order ties the record for the longest running TV drama in primetime history. The other show? Gunsmoke.
After weeks (or years, really) of speculation, NBC confirmed the cancellation Friday. Actors and producers of the show were told Thursday.
But the franchise lives on: The network has renewed Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and has ordered a new series, Law & Order: Los Angeles.
